Whispering LION Live at Ms. Pearl

Whispering LION brought his East Bay Oaktown posse to Ms. Pearl's Saturday Night and he rocked the crowd with his conscious and catchy style of original reggae dance tunes. The crowd began partying at sound check, and the riddims continued for 3 sets until 1:30am. Whispering LION opened his first set with his well-known Lion Lay Down with the Lamb (its a beautiful night, I wish it was a beautiful world ). LION then introduced a whole heap of new tunes, including the beautiful rocker, Heavenly Music. He sang: Our lives should be electric, every life deserves a chance, sometimes it takes a rainy day to help us make our moments last. As always, the beautiful and talented Soul Sistahs, Bonnie Boyer and Zorina London, decorated the choruses with their lovely and heartfelt chants.

A real crowd favorite was One Love, Whispering LION's special song for this Valentine's weekend. LION stalked deep into the crowd and shined his light on a special lady sitting at the bar. It was one of those magical moments that can only happen when the music is live and the feeling is real. LION sang, We live in two worlds, it does not mean we cannot have one heart, and One Love between us.

Rankin Scroo, who moved over to bass guitar for this show, said that this was one of his favorite tunes. Joining Scroo's powerful bass was the talented Sistah Ginger on keyboards. The legendary Hux Brown played riddim guitar and frequently took off on solos and riffs. Scroo moved over to the lead mic for a few tunes, including Pass the Kotchie and Africa.

Whispering LION again showcased his popular cry for peace and world harmony with Up 2 Us, one of his trademark tunes. This song has and airplay written all over it. If you haven't heard LION live, you must, if only to hear this incredibly appropriate message. ( Who wants to live in a world of trouble, who wants to live in a world of pain, we ve got to live in a world of love, I know we can do it, it's Up 2 Us, we got the power, it's Up 2 Us. ) Rumor has it that Up 2 Us will be released as a 12 inch, possibly b/w Lion Lay Down with the Lamb. As soon as we have the info, we will pass it along. As LION says in his closing song, Better Days Straight Ahead There's a mountain rising up to the sky, we can climb that mountain Call 510-530-4538 for records, tapes, upcoming shows.
